It’s been suggested that it’s a rent-a-cop and not technically an official police car, but I wouldn’t take my chances, North Carolina friends.

Y U not GT?

It is rather interesting isn’t it? Why bother going for a sports coupe in this line of work and not get the version that could actually keep up (or even outrun) the cars you’d need to pursue with such a vehicle?
If it’s just for show (i.e. drug & alcohol education), it seems like a waste of money, and I can’t think of why a rent-a-cop would need a vehicle like this... ever.

There really is no need for a pursuit vehicle that can outrun a suspect because no car is faster than a radio.

What cop wouldn’t run the GT like seriously a V6? Not even the ecoboost. Rent-a-cop for sure.

Precisely. The Ecostang isn’t faster than a Hemi Charger or LS Caprice and those can actually haul a perp. It’s not stealthy or boy-racerish enough to bait potential street racers. What’s the point?

I’ve seen these about in other states, it’s likely a real cop car.

There are two blue unmarked Mustangs that do speed enforcement around Indy. They’re pretty aggressive too.

Rather have a last gen with a V8.

Does it have your local police license plates? It is possible it was seized and they have decided to put it to work.

Town I went to college in had a red with black stripe “GT350" with full strobes and lights.

Most police departments use a V6 Charger. My sister is a Sheriff’s Deputy and her Charger is a V6.
Yes, I was disappointed as well. Fuel economy is a pretty big hit on the budget when they never turn the damn cars off.

as in they only chase down other mustangs at Cars and Coffee.

It’s true. The V6 Chargers get the most use, but if a department needs a pursuit vehicle, why buy a Mustang/Camaro for pursuit and a V6 Charger to haul the perp when you can buy a one car that can do both? I do see a fair amount of Hemi-equipped Charger cruisers ‘round here.

Civilian plates. But our State Troopers have a collection of fourth-gen Camaros and a seized Z06 in their fleet. The Z06 appeared on an episode of US Top Gear. https://rideapart.com/articles/watch-ernie-vigil-throw-a-race-to-a-z06

This was a thing for a long time:
They were basically LX notches with 5 speed manuals no less.

Yeah, it would’ve made the most sense to get an EcoBoost probably or like you said just order 1 charger with a hemi.

You can put the cop in a Mustang, but you can also put the Mustang in a cop.
But, it’s not a V8 GT.

My town has a few V6 Challengers that are undercover. Also, theres a brand new GMC Sierra in silver that blends in crazy well.
Undercovers are getting sneaky

There’s two of these where I live in Indiana, except they have no markings
